Quality of Life Metric

In the Past

Societies were designed by power elites, based simply upon their opinion of what would work. On occasion they had the best of intentions. Nonetheless the result has been an almost perfect track record of societal collapses.

Some believe our global civilization is on a path to the same fate. Should they be proved right then the track record will become perfect.

The People’s Think Tank

Homo Sapiens have been working on civilization for 6,000 years. And for 60,000 years before that we were getting ready for civilization. The People’s Think Tank is a step toward improving our individual and collective chance for success. We are adament about including the average person. To not do so would be similar to a doctor practicing medicine without a patient.

The People’s Think Tank:

1) Includes the persons who live in the world and, who first hand, deal with it. These are the society experts. We, of course, also need the specialists, scientists, and power elites who have the essential knowledge and the power to support change.

2) Considers the mix of threats and opportunities, assessing how each will affect our quality of life.

3) Builds a specific type of computer simulation and forecast tool to seek out a path to a better world.

4) Uses the Star Bright Community to design a better future and test change agent proposals.

Why Bother!
We’re Already Doomed!

Someday we may face a species extinction level event. But, it is not today. Today we can seize the opportunity to become more than we have been.

Before we give up on solving our problems we need to look at past successes and failures.

Most importantly we need to understand, deeply understand, that civilization is a complex evolutionary system. An evolutionary system undergoes two types of changes 1) the slow accumulation of small improvements, and 2) rapid change in times of turmoil. The combination of these is called punctuated equilibrium. Much academic and mathematical ink has been spilled over this. It is an easy concept to understand. During calm seas the boat rocking change agent will be ignored or thwarted. Only during times of turmoil is there a realistic opportunity for significant change. We are in such a time?
